Gassco migrate from Origo to Energy Components
Gassco is running a project to migrate the existing Origo solution for their LNG/Condensate products to Tieto’s Energy Components 10 platform. Moving to a standardised solution enables Gassco to adopt technological enhancements as they emerge
Gassco operates the nearly 8,000 kilometer long integrated transport system for Norwegian gas, connecting Norway, Continental Europe and the UK. It manages yearly volumes of 100 bcm of dry gas and around 8,7 million ton of NGL/Condensate products, so a reliable and efficient IT solution is critical.
Standardised gas pipeline solution
Sven Haakon Olsen, the leader of the migration project at Gassco, explained that their old system, Origo, was developed by Tieto based on the Energy Components platform, but wa
s essentially a tailor-made solution for Gassco
“The Origo system manages the core business of Gassco and is a strategically important product. The migration to EC 10 implies moving to a standardised solution and ensures that we can update our system with technological innovations on a regular basis,” he said.
Thorough evaluation
Gassco initially looked at upgrading in 2007, but decided to wait mainly due to functional gaps between Origo and the standard EC product.
What has changed since you looked at upgrading in 2007?
“The goal was to continue the good relationship we had with Tieto provided that the solution could handle our comprehensive business and technical requirements. With the launch of EC 10 we decided to run a new evaluation process. Our conclusion is that EC 10 offers better visualisation of the user interfaces and more modern tools. We also see that the EC product now is more mature, and that Tieto has commitment to minimize the GAP between our Origo solution and EC product line. By this we will achieve one of our main goals for the project, a standardized system. Other important benefits include process automation and staging which allows us to run our business more efficiently,” said Sven Haakon Olsen.
Close cooperation with Tieto’s product team
Gassco has 25 people involved in the project. Both management and users have high expectations to the new and improved functionality the EC gas pipeline solution represents.
In addition to continuous collaboration with Tieto’s project team in Trondheim, Gassco maintains close contact with Tieto’s product development team in Stavanger to ensure that the solution is developed according to Gassco’s specifications.
“We believe this is a strong model for maintaining good progress in the project and for developing a strong solution,” concluded Sven Haakon Olsen.
