Smart metering operations centre in Norway

Tieto has established a Nordic centre for remote reading and operation of smart meters in Lillehammer, Norway. This means that Tieto can offer operation, development and maintenance of IT infrastructure and systems needed for a complete AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) Managed Service.

The centre already today handles automatic meter readings and other services for 145.000 of E.ON’s smart meters in Sweden.

Automatic meter reading is already implemented in Sweden. In Finland the implementation is underway. In Norway the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) have announced that the regulatory framework will be set 2011. Full implementation in Norway is expected 2016.

Kåre Lunde, head of Tieto Energy Norway, says, “Already today every third electricity customer in the Nordics receives their bill from a Tieto billing system. Establishing this centre in Tieto makes Tieto a leading supplier of large-scale automatic metering services. Tieto takes a unique position taking into account the smart metering implementation that Norwegian utilities will face in the coming years.”

E.ON sees customer benefit

Camilla Haker, Contract Manager in E.ON Elnät, says, “There is a large customer benefit in good meter value handling. Because of this, it is very important for E.ON that this is fully functional.”

The centre in Lillehammer is Tieto’s Nordic hub for AMI Managed Service and will primarily be used for smart metering systems in Norway, Sweden and Finland. The main part of the service is automatic collection of meter values, as well as surveillance and maintenance of the infrastructure.
