Haninge, Nynäshamn and Södertälje municipalities in the Södertörn area of southern Greater Stockholm, Sweden, have selected Tieto to supply them with IT operational services and user support. The three municipalities thus gain access to a joint service platform that meets the needs of the municipalities' employees and school children in a simpler way and - in the long run - also those of the municipalities' inhabitants.

'Computers are one of the most important tools for thousands of employees and school children in our municipalities,' explains Jonas Knutson, IT manager in Södertälje. 'With this agreement we want to ensure that this tool operates smoothly. Our cooperation also forms the foundation of developing simple e-services for all inhabitants in the municipality.'

'It's exciting to be part of the joint IT development of these municipalities in the Södertörn area,' says Mats Brandt, manager of public sector operations at Tieto Sweden. 'We will contribute our detailed operational knowledge and deliveries of long-term, efficient, flexible and green IT operational services.'

The three Södertörn municipalities have jointly procured IT operation and user support in a tendering process. Several companies submitted bids, and after thorough evaluation, Tieto was selected. The agreement spans five years, with the option of extension for a further two years. For Haninge, staff affected will transfer to Tieto.

'For most of us who work in the three municipalities, the change will simplify and clarify procedures to deal with any IT-related problems; this is a good basis on which to continue our joint development.' says Rolf Lindqvist, IT manager in Nynäshamn.

Mona Ekesryd, Haninge's IT manager, is thinking along the same lines.

'Naturally, our aim is to make IT operation cheaper and more efficient, but above all we want to make it easier for all users. We have devoted a great deal of energy to identifying the needs of our schools, for example, in terms of computers and IT,' she explains. 'In light of this, I'd like to define the agreement as an important step in our long-term work on creating functional e-services that all of our 187,000 inhabitants in the municipality will benefit from.

This is an important deal and helps Tieto towards achieving its long-term strategy of developing and strengthening its position as the leading supplier of IT to the public sector.
